Teens & Early Adulthood
The teen years are some of the most difficult we will experience. Our brains are going through stages of rapid development, our self identity is being explored and expanded, and the part of our brain that is responsible for logic and reason is still forming.
The emotion center of our brain is much more in control at this stage, and our ability to identify, understand, and regulate our emotions sometimes feels impossible.
At the same time, intense environmental stressors are ever present, including school challenges, future planning, and our home environment.
Finding the balance of independence while being dependent and responsible to others around us creates sometimes overwhelming difficulties.
Add to that any kind of neurodivergence and you create a formula for invalidation , dysregulation, and maladaptive coping mechanisms.
We all could use someone to listen, understand, and support us, judgment-free, while also helping us get to our specific goals that can help reduce distress and increase our interpersonal relationships, both with ourselves and others.
