Personality Disorders

Our personalities influence how we experience emotions, connect with others, and move through the world. When certain long-standing patterns begin to cause distress or disrupt relationships, work, or daily life, a personality-based concern may be worth exploring with care and curiosity.

Personality disorders do not arise from a single cause. They often reflect a complex interplay of temperament, early experiences, and trauma, shaped over time.

Many clients come to Gray Skies Therapy carrying a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), only to later learn that their experiences may be better understood through the lens of undiagnosed ADHD, autism, or unresolved trauma. These presentations can overlap in meaningful ways, particularly when emotional intensity, sensory sensitivity, or executive functioning challenges are present.

Our work focuses on careful assessment and thoughtful, individualized care- seeking understanding rather than labels, and clarity rather than assumption.

Effective treatment for personality disorders often includes individual therapy, skills-based support, and sometimes medication or family involvement. We use evidence-based approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and EMDR to support meaningful, lasting change.
